Browse content – Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus Beginners Tutorial – Part 2

If you’re following along with the DCP web tutorial series on MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Plus, this second installment picks up right where the first left off. In Part 1, we covered how to select the correct film settings for a new project. Now it’s time to look at something every editor needs to master early on: browsing your source files and getting them into the timeline so you can actually start editing.

Starting a New Project

Before you can add any content, you need a project to add it to. The tutorial begins by:

  1. Creating a new project in MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Plus
  2. Confirming the correct film settings (already configured as the default from Part 1)
  3. Clicking OK to let MAGIX generate a blank project
From there, it’s good practice to immediately go to File > Save As to save your work. In the example used in this tutorial, the project being built is a “How to Convert Microsoft Word to PDF” video – the kind of practical, tutorial-style content many creators produce for YouTube.

Organising Your Source Files

Before diving into the software, it helps to have your project folder open on the desktop. In this example, the folder for the “How to Convert Microsoft Word to PDF” tutorial contains several key files:

  • The project file that was just saved
  • An intro slide
  • An intro video
  • The main tutorial video content
  • An end slide

There are also some supplementary files used purely as visual examples during the recording – in this case, sample Word and PDF files used to demonstrate the actual conversion process on screen. Keeping these assets organised in one folder makes the next step – importing them into MAGIX – much smoother.

Two Ways to Add Content to the Timeline

MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Plus gives you a couple of different routes for pulling your files into the editor:

1. Drag and Drop from the Desktop

If your project folder is already open, you can simply drag and drop files one by one directly into the Movie Edit Pro Plus timeline. This works fine for quick edits, but it means switching back and forth between your desktop and the software.

2. Use the Built-In Browser Function (Recommended)

The more efficient – and recommended – method is to use MAGIX’s built-in browser panel. Here’s how it works:

  1. Click on My Computer (or the name of your machine – in this tutorial, it appears as “DCP,” the name of the editor’s computer)
  2. Navigate to the Desktop
  3. Open the relevant YouTube project folder
  4. Drill down into the specific tutorial folder (e.g., “How to Convert Microsoft Word to PDF File”)
  5. MAGIX will display all the files in that folder, ready to be dragged directly into the timeline

Using the browser function keeps everything inside the MAGIX interface, which speeds up your workflow once you’re managing multiple assets across a project.

Why This Step Matters

Getting comfortable with file browsing and timeline imports early on saves a lot of frustration later. A clean folder structure combined with MAGIX’s browser panel means you spend less time hunting for files and more time actually editing – trimming clips, adding transitions, and building out your sequence.

What's Next

With your content now accessible and ready to import, the next tutorial in this DCP series will focus on actually adding this content into the timeline and beginning the real editing process – arranging clips, setting in/out points, and building your sequence from the intro slide through to the closing slide.
